Selection Process of the 2010 JAGDA Awards
JAGDA considers recording and bestowing awards on the outstanding graphic design works of each year one of its most important activities. In 2008 it launched the “JAGDA Awards” (initially known as “JAGDA Category Awards”). The awards are presented to an unspecified number of works garnering the most votes in each entry category.

• Normally, for each category except posters, the five works garnering the highest numbers of votes are nominated for a JAGDA Award; in the poster category, because of the large number of entries, 10 works are nominated. This year, due to a remarkable number of tie votes in all categories except one (Interactive Design & Motion Graphics), the total number of nominations reached 56: including 8 each in the General Graphics and Book & Editorial Design categories; 7 in the Ambient Design & Spatial Graphics category; and 6 each in the CI, VI, Symbols, Logotypes & Typefaces, Package Design, and Newspaper & Magazine Advertising categories.
• Under the entry rules, works by a client that span multiple categories but are on the identical theme are treated as a single work for the purposes of award nomination. This year, prior to voting the judges confirmed that entries No. 18/24 and No. 22/34 would be treated accordingly.
• Each member of the Selection Committee was allowed to cast up to 10 votes in judgment of the 56 nominated entries. The voting, carried out anonymously by filling out printed forms, yielded the following results: 14 votes for No.07; 13 votes for No.17; 12 votes for No.11; 10 votes for No.18/24; 9 votes each for No.09 and No.22/34; 8 votes each for No.01 and No.13; 7 votes each for No.05 and No.10; 6 votes each for No.08, No.20, No.31 and No.54; and 5 votes each for No.28 and No.55. The members unanimously agreed these 16 entries garnering 5 votes or more would be the award finalists.
• Next, the members of the Selection Committee whose own works were included among the finalists were asked to leave, and voting proceeded by the remaining 14 members. For this final round of voting, each member was permitted to cast up to 5 votes in total. This round produced the following results: 9 votes for No.07; 7 votes for No.17; and 6 votes each for No.05, No.11 and No.18/24. The judges decided to bestow the JAGDA Award on all five of these entries.
